Sure! He’ll eat snails if you have a problem with them too

NO. They are cold water fish & should only be kept with the same type of goldfish. i.e. fantails should only be kept with fantails since they are slower moving than say comet goldfish.

I would personally recommend you not to keep the goldfish with semi-aggressive fish, as the goldfish has a very mild and timid nature, the fish may bother it by nipping the fins….Try to keep your goldfish with other goldfish varieties..

a goldfish can live in a heated community tank, but i dont know about the semi-aggressive fish
best bet would be to get one and put it in there and see what your other fish do to him, but i think that he should be good

No – Goldfish are cold-water fish, they cannot survive in a tropical tank for long.

Most pet experts will suggest not combining the two. But I always have had goldfish in my tanks & have never had a problem. The increase in water temperature will cause them to grow more quickly, & they can get quite large depending on the size & population of your tank (according to my local pet store owner). And if your semi-aggressive fish don’t like it, worst case is they will eat the gold fish. If you’re not willing to part with them, then don’t combine them. If you don’t care if they happen to be eaten, go for it.

Gold fish are ill-suited to live in a heated tropical tank — especially if they have always been in cold/room temperature water — it will likely induce shock and kill the fish.
Same for placing the goldfish with semi aggressive fish. If they are not use to each other, it is likely to not ‘end well’.

They can “live” in a heated tropical tank but they will not live any where near as long or as well as they should.

Goldfish have to stay with goldfish and usually their water temperature should be around form 79-80 degrees Farenheit.

YES THEY CAN ” LIVE ” IN A HEATED TANK BUT THEY WON’T FAIR AS WELL SINCE THEY REALLY ARE A COLD WATER FISH, AND PUTTING THEM WITH AGGRESSIVE FISH SEMI OR OTHERWISE IS PROBABLY NOT A GOOD IDEA AS THEY WILL PROBABLY GET ” BEAT UP ” ALOT RESULTING IN DEATHS AND EVEN POSSIBLY DISEASES

no…but yes. I do and have mixed all my life.
Now I have tetras, 3 varieties (12 total), scissor tails (4) ,bala sharks ,red tail sharks and 5 shubkin goldfish which are aggressive goldfish..Pleco and corys and all get along fine..
they shouldn’t but they do!
Here comes the thumbs down.
I have had fish for 44 yrs and I have had baby Oscars and Koi grow up together and last for yrs..
Guess it just depends on the fish.

Goldfish do not do well in a heated tank. They can survive for a while but they will not live as long as they are capable of.
Depending upon what semi-agressive fish you have, they may nip the fins of the goldfish.
One fancy goldfish requires a 20 gallon tank minimum with high filtration and no heater. Each additional fancy will require an additional 10 gallons. Other types of goldfish may require even larger tanks.=

I’ve seen it done before, but it’s not really a good idea.
In fact it was a large comet goldfish living with an Oscar. I think it was a feeder fish that was a bit to big and fast and never got eaten. 2 years later it was still swimming about, was about 12″ long and was best mates with the Oscar.
Godlfish can handle water temps up to about 25C(77F), although they may not live as long.
They are large messy fish, so maintaining the better water quality that many tropical fish need may be difficult.
So – not impossible, I just dont think it’s a good idea.
